Hello & Welcome

Helping You Run Smarter, More Successful Charity Collections

Welcome to Charity Collection Guide, your go-to resource for practical, real-world advice on running effective fundraising campaigns and charity collections.

My name’s John Bailey, and I’ve spent years standing on street corners with a collection tin, organising volunteers, applying for permits, and learning (sometimes the hard way) what makes a charity campaign succeed, or a flop.

In my latter years volunteering and supporting charitable causes has been a big part of who I am. Over time, I’ve organised many street collections, supported community fundraising events, and had the good fortune to work alongside some truly inspiring organisations. These experiences, good and bad, have helped me build up a bank of knowledge I’m keen to share.

People often ask me for help and advice, and that’s what this site is all about: passing on what I’ve learned so you don’t have to start from scratch.

By day, I’m a Facilities Manager overseeing multiple restaurants at Bloomberg’s European headquarters in London. Before that, I helped launch iconic venues like Planet Hollywood and the Hard Rock Café on Piccadilly Circus. But my passion has always been volunteering and community work and this blog is how I plan to stay involved and give something back.

Whether you’re a charity organiser, a volunteer, or just curious about how to run a charity collection, I hope you’ll find something here to help you.

Got a fundraising story to share? A question about your next campaign? I’d genuinely love to hear from you. Tell me who you're raising money for, what you’re planning, and where you need a hand.
